On leaving college Mick's first role in 1989 was with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council in the Planned Maintenance Division of the Housing Department carrying out dilapadation surveys and managing refurbushment schemes predominantly on ER&P council house block repair schemes.
In 2000 Mick made the move into a technical role within the gas protection and waterproofing industry with Cooper Clarke before joining EPG Ltd and latterly The A.Proctor Group.
In 2008, Mick set up the first dedicated consultancy business in the UK specialising in the inspection and testing of gas protection systems. In the past 20 years he has been invited onto various CIRIA steering committees and was a contributor to the CIEH’s local authority ground gas handbook, In 2014 he was appointed to the research team to provide new guidance on gas protection verification for CIRIA.
Along with Hugh Mallett (Buro Happold), Steve Wilson (EPG Ltd) and Louise Taffel-Andureau (Buro Happold) he is one of the co-authors of CIRIA C735 “Good practise on the testing and verification of protection systems for buildings against hazardous ground gas” this guidance was published in 2014 and is now a normative reference in BS8485:2015(A1:2019) and the cornerstone of gas protection verification procedures in the UK.
