As Gas Protection Specialist, we work with architects, surveyors, contractors and engineers to provide detailing and recomendation to ensure that the correct number of protection points required in BS8485:2015(A1:2019) Code of Practice for the Design of Protective Measures for Methane and Carbon Dioxide Ground Gases for New Buildings is achieved.

Section 8 of BS8485 states that the following is required in the design report:

  1. Detailed gas protection construction drawings.
  2. Points scores taken from tables 5-7
  3. Product Design, Product Specifications and Justifications
  4. Venting Calculations (if applicable)
  5. Description of Gas Regime from Site Investigation or Gas Risk Assessment.

All the design reports supplied by MEC Environmental comply with section 8 of BS8485.

When a full gas risk assessments is required we can put you in touch with our specialist partners who have co-authored many of the guidance documents on gas risk assessments in the UK.

On low risk sites they can often reduce the site classification through bespoke modelling software so that no gas protection measures are required at all.
